The Denver Beer Company was one of the better joints we visited on our trip to Colorado, probably because it was far enough away from the obnoxiousness of the stadium district’s shenanigans to not be influenced by it.dbc2

It’s a pretty straightforward spot. As most trendy spots do, it looks like it used to be an auto mechanic’s garage. But unlike a lot of the trendy spots, I’m pretty sure this building actually was one once. The wall of windows and simple, solid-colored walls gives the interior a very clean design.

The beers are also very clean, and different enough from the pack to stand out, but not so different as to be utterly insane. Princess Yum Yum is a raspberry kolsch that is subtle enough to easily drink several. And the Graham Cracker Porter has some tasty notes. But my favorite was the Chocolate Coconut version on nitro – it was basically dessert, and I had a sweet tooth at the time.

dbc3The rest of the beers are also quite good, ranging from slightly off-kilter hoppy wheets to oyster stouts and rye pale ales. Not much here is straight style, which I appreciate.
