You won’t find their beer anywhere around town – not even in Durham. The Bull Durham Beer Company is the first and only fully operational brewing outfit located inside of a baseball stadium. True, it may be a AAA stadium, but it’s still pretty damn cool.db4

If we’re talking about location, you can’t get any better than the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. It’s a throwback to the gorgeous brick stadiums of yore, surrounded by the historical but revamped American Tobacco District warehouses. The scene is simply tremendous.

Unfortunately the beer panders to the lowest common denominator. I have full faith that they’ll eventually wander away from producing only a kolsch and a wheat beer, but for the time being, they’re just boring. The beers are fine and full-bodied, tasting better than the still-available macrobrews, but with the stadium selling beers from at least a dozen North Carolina craft breweries, there are definitely better options available.

db3It is the only place in the stadium where you can get those cool cups that fill from the bottom up, however, so that’s a bonus.
