After successfully stuffing ourselves full of whitefish, paninis and beer at The Vierling, we moseyed around the corner to Ore Dock Brewing Company to round out our first night in the UP.

This place is an awesome hangout spot. From the vast amount of space, to the ample cozy seating, to the beautiful masonry and woodwork, they’ve definitely done this space up right. It seems like the perfect spot for a local concert or fancy event…or simply any Friday night. There’s also a downstairs that we merely glimpsed that also looked like it’d be a great place to stay for several beers.od1

If only I enjoyed their beers more. There’s not necessarily anything bad about their offerings, but after trying each one, nothing left me wanting more. The stout is roasty and dry and the IPA is decent, and those are the two I opted to have pints of, but the rest didn’t go down well IMO. Perhaps it’s because I’m not a big fan of saisons.

In any case, we opted to get a growler for the hotel from The Vierling rather than Ore Dock, since we didn’t care much for their recipes. But we still had a great time at the place, so certainly don’t write it off your list should you find yourself in the area.

od2And if you like saisons, definitely give it a shot.
