Ellison Brewery and Spirits

East Lansing seems like the ideal location for a new brewery. Between a giant student population, a healthy number of young professionals, and only having a single less-than-average brewery for far too long, I’m glad to see the options have expanded since the last time I visited town.
Granted, it’s been about four years, but change comes slowly to the area.
Ellison Brewery and Spirits has just about everything I’ve come to associate with a solid brewing establishment. A long bar, several picnic tables, a concrete floor, and not a whole lot of fluff. Don’t get me wrong, the decor is perfectly nice and cozy, but there’s not a lot of extraneous additions either.
Seeing as the bar was busy when we dropped in with our dog (one of the few spots that didn’t seem to mind), my wife and I ordered two of their beers to try. Both were New England style juicy IPAs. Both were pretty tasty, but not the best we’d had of the style by a long shot.
Just judging by those two beers, the surroundings and the crowd, I’m going to go ahead and assume most of their wares are of a high quality.
I’ll find out more next time.
